Diego Maradona - Argentina - World Cup 2010: number 10 flops - in pictures
Drug bans, weight issues and 'Hand of God' aside, Diego Maradona is undoubtedly one of the greatest players ever to have graced the World Cup stage kitted out in the famous number 10 jersey.
The Argentinian played in four tournaments and captained his country to back-to-back finals in 1986 and 1990, winning the former in Mexico.
Like his supposed successor, Lionel Messi, Maradona thrilled audiences around the globe with his unique blend of trickery and determination. Unlike his supposed successor, Maradona has the medals to show for it.
Geoff Hurst - England - World Cup 2010: number 10 flops - in pictures
Geoff Hurst will long be the hero of English football for his match winning performance in the 1966 World Cup final.
The former West Ham striker had not been part of manager Alf Ramsey's plans in the early stages of that tournament on home soil but thrived on the World Cup stage when given the opportunity to replace the injured Jimmy Greaves.
The image of Hurst cantering towards the German goal in the dying stages of extra time at Wembley and sealing the trophy with his third, and England's fourth goal of the game remains the country's finest at this tournament.
The 2010 number 10, Wayne Rooney was expected to be the man to deliver for the Three Lions but cut a frustrated figure in a series of lacklustre displays.
